Overnight Kids Summer Camp

How to make the best choice and find the most acceptable summer camp program for your kids? The choosing process involves some necessary research because the summer camp experience will have an influence on your kid's life. Unfortunately, some parents know nothing about the differences between adults' and kids' needs and desires and do not consider the changes in the camp life. But fortunately, many parents can have quality guidance in this area.

First parents must understand the needs, desires, goals and expectations of their children to make the best selection of an overnight kids summer camp. Let your child answer the following questions.

What does he or she want to get there - develop more self confidence and become more independent, learn new skills, improve proficiency in definite areas? What are your kid's special interests? Are they intellectual, physical, cultural? Are social interactions with the opposite sex important?

Ask your child all questions you keep in mind and get clear answers. Then write down all your concerns and additional questions to ask the manager of the camp about the camp itself and its peculiarities.

You should also take into consideration some specific characteristics of the summer camp you are going to choose for your kid. Clarify everything about the type of the camp; its cost, size and location; about offered programs and activities; and about special needs.

Usually overnight summer camps are coed and there is extensive interaction between the kids, though such camps separate facilities and activities for boys and girls. They even may be located miles apart.

Consider the size of the camp as the smaller camps have special environment and the kids and stuff get to know each other better. Such camps meet individual needs quickly. But in good large camps kids receive the same attention proposed by small camps.

It's a Summer For Stay-cations and Virtual Vacations

Between our gas prices and the economy today many people are being forced to come up with alternative options to their traditional summer vacations.

We want to share some of our Stay-cations and Virtual Vacations. There are some great ways to get that "time away" and yet save money, gas and bond with the family at the same time.

This was the era of family summer vacations, where we experienced things first hand, as that was the only way to do so. Dad got two weeks off from work and the kids didn't have to go back to school until after Labor Day. August was vacation month and families packed up the car and got to see this great country of ours, not the man-made resorts of today. We are so happy that we got to come across country 23 years ago. To this day, we still talk about the trip and the phenomenal places we got to see. Of course, all captured in pictures!

Want to see the country without leaving your home, why not watch some great travelogues, one of our favorites is Sightseeing Along The Roads to Romance, which is filled with wonderful road trips around this great country of ours. From New York to California and states in between you will be entertained, and get to see sites you might have missed. So sit back, relax and enjoy the views, without leaving home. Or sit back and enjoy The New York World's Fair 1964-1965 with your family from the comfort of your home. I know I loved revisiting the Fair. I lived in Queens, NY at the time and got to see it firsthand, and had a wonderful time watching it all over again.

After watching, I am sure you will want to pack up the family and go on more "virtual road trips" around this great country.

Another great way to have some family fun is Camping At Home. You heard me, get out those sleeping bags, tents, and camping equipment and set them up in your backyard. Make a weekend of it or longer if you wish. If you don't have the yard to do it in, check out some of the alternatives in your area or campgrounds close to home. KOA has a ton of campgrounds around the country. For those of you without the camping gear KOA also offers cabins to rent.

While on your camping trip do something different, by bringing your radio (that plays CDs) and play some old time radio shows like we did years ago before television. Lots of eerie options in the old time radio realm, like Inner Sanctum Mysteries, Lights Out and more.

Not into camping but want to spend some quality time with the children, how about a movie night where every family member gets to pick a film and then take turns watching their choices. Why not pick some nostalgic movies to show your children how things used to be. Some ideas are: Drive In Movie Favorites, Kids Will Love Vintage Puppies, Kittens, Rabbits & More, Vintage Movie Trailers, Fashions of the Past, Soundies of the 1940s: The First Music Videos and so much more.

Bring out the popcorn or your favorite treat, sick back and have a grand time.

Another great way to have some family fun is with games. Designate one or more nights a week this summer as Game Nights.

I can remember the Saturday Game Nights growing up where we got out the Monopoly game, Scrabble, Parcheesi, puzzles, card games and in later years Risk. If we ran out of time, the game was set aside and we picked it up the next weekend or game night we had.

How about buying some Paint by Numbers and have a night painting. Another option is a night of puzzle. The whole family is involved and put the puzzle together as a family all at the beginning of a turnaround.

Designate one or more nights this summer, and then try to bring in the autumn, when the children are back in school, you get some 'time together and have fun at the same time.

So the stay-tion-site or you can take a virtual holiday this year. Whatever you decide on a"wonderful time with your family".

12 Weeks To Lose Unwanted Belly Fat And Inches For This Summer

I love online fat loss challenge, because I think she can help you to be motivated, especially when there is a deadline and you will be surrounded by others, the same desire.

Here are some women who enrolled in a 12-week Fat Loss Challenge and how they felt about their first full weeks.

Wendy:

55 years young

I've always been interested in health and wellness and I felt like I was eating healthy and exercising well. When I started with Heather(taking her boot camp classes - she really gives you a great workout and working with her on my nutrition), I learned that I wasn't working my body efficiently. I've never had anyone work with me to focus on changing the role that your mind plays as it relates to fat loss. My goal is to have a lean body as well. I have family members in MD that are on the same program and they are all losing weight. I'm talking about 90 lbs but it has taken them a year to do it. We just all need to be patient but we can do it too! Good luck to everyone.

Here is her recap of her first week accomplished:
What I did good this week: I fixed Easter dinner and only ate healthy foods. We went out with friends and I remained on my program. No alcohol! Social drinking can be a problem but I remained focus and think before I have a social drink.

My challenges this past week was that I didn't work out hard enough since I was in Myrtle Beach part of the time. I'm back home and on track. I will continue to take Heather's boot camp where I get the best workouts.

When I fixed Easter dinner, I really wasn't tempted to eat the cheesecake or the twice baked potatoes that I fixed.

What I will do different this week is increase my workouts. I will maintain my healthy eating and focusing on putting only good fuel in my body.

Fat Loss Goals:

30 Days

My body is now fit.

I am a size 8

My challenges are when we go out for the evening. We have some things coming up and I will only put good fuel in my body. We have a trip planned at the end of April that will be a challenge for me because I know there will be lots of eating and drinking. We are going to Palm Springs, CA with about 24 members of the Harbor Club but I will stay focused on my eating plan. I will exercise while I am on vacation.

60 Days

To think more positive about my body. I continue to do my affirmations and listen to the CDs to stay focused.

90 Days

My body is now fit. I have lost body fat, continue to do my affirmations, eating healthy, and get some sort of daily exercise. Continue to enter my foods into FitDay and monitor my calories, fat, carbs and protein. I continue to have protein with every meal that I eat.

Denni

39 years old (young)

I'm 39 years old, married with 3 wonderful children. Grew up primarily in Goose Creek, attended college at CofC, been working in an environmental lab since my last semester of college. While I was in college, I started caring about my health after I put on the freshmen 10 lbs. I took some fitness classes (running, racquetball) and worked out sporadically at the FIRM. Moved to N. Charleston, joined a fitness center, didn't really worry about the nutrition part of being healthy. Slowly put weight on over the years. Got married, had children. With each pregnancy, kept a few more pounds.

I am a size 8 (currently in size 14 clothing). My goal is to be healthy, lean and strong by eating the right foods and exercising regularly.

Set your goals:

Nutrition: I am eating protein with each meal. I am recording intake on http://www.fitday.com

Mental: I am a size 8 and I feel great.

Exercise: I am exercising at least four days each week.

Write affirmations:

I eat for my size 8 body everyday.

I train for my size 8 body regularly.

I use affirmations everyday.

What I accomplished this week:

I am back at the gym on a regular basis. I am recording intake on http://www.fitday.com.

Challenges:

Making time to focus on the mental part. Eating on Easter.

Changes for next week:

Better plan food. Make time for mental component of this healthier lifestyle.

Laura:

I am Laura. I am a 54 year old business woman, and grandmother. I quit smoking about 10 years ago, and I guess I substituted food for the smoking. I have just never gotten it under control again. I get on the wagon for a while, and do well, and when I fall off, and start eating unhealthy, I have a time trying to get myself back on track. I have diabetes now, and I know what I need to do to be healthy.

This disease is controllable, and nutrition and movement are the key. I could teach volumes, but I am really having a tough time following a healthy plan. I am, by nature a strong willed, determined woman, so when I am good, I am great, but when I am bad, well, I never do anything half way. I love healthy foods, and salads, but my weakness is starch, and sugar. ( sugar is a drug)

My goals are to be lean, strong, and healthy. The healthy part is so much more important than anything else. I want to " sit on the back porch, covered with grandchildren, and yell NO, and Stop that!!" I am looking forward to the strength we will have as a team, and hope we can all help each other.

Tina:

When I moved to SC 2 years ago, I was in the best shape of my life, lean and in a size 4! I slowly started to gain the weight back when I did not join a gym and started picking on the boy's fries, etc. The last 10-15 lbs came on fast when I was trying to clear my system from my thyroid medicine to start a new one.

My goal is to be lean, strong, healthy sexy and confident.

Sarah:

Well, to summarize in short story form, I've always been interested in fitness, exercise and healthy eating, but I have strong 'binge' tendencies when it comes to french fries, sweets & simple carbs.

I've always exercised regularly since graduating from college with a few bouts with minimal exercise, but exercise makes me feel SO good & full of energy. Of course, I didn't have issues with weight until after having my children. But I got the weight down to a size 8/10 (8 is my norm).

I love to eat so I have to exercise to keep the weight from creeping on. When I say I binge, I mean I'll eat healthy for a week and then eat bad one day and not just limit myself to 2 cookies etc...I will get in that mindset of 'well, I've already blown it for today so I'm going to eat anything I want and how much I want - even though I may not be hungry'...it's more of a mental game of emotional eating...then a few days later I'll get back on track. I have yoyo'd with my weight for several years within 10-15 lbs. I was at the weight I wanted to be at until last Nov when I started eating bad and letting the lbs come on.

I have gained close to 15 lbs since Nov and I want it OFF and to be back in my size 8 pants! Since I work full time and have 2 children (8 & 12 yr olds) , I don't have time to go to a gym so I work out at home...I have a treadmill, weights and a slew of workout videos (taebo, core secrets, turbo jam, hip hop abs and the firm) that I alternate with. I'm very interested in healthy eating and learning the proper balance between cardio and weight training.

I'm excited about my plan and learning about the role our mind plays, how we can 'train' our metabolism by eating the right balance of protein, carbs & fat.

I'm ready to get my discipline on track and to eat healthy for life with keeping moderation in mind at all times (when the sweets are around!) I figured a good old competition/challenge would be good for me as well!

Nancy:

It was a pretty good week. What I think I did right this week was watch my diet. I ate much smaller meals and more frequently. Their were a few times that I could eat more, but managed to stay the course and I have never too hungry.

My challenge was to push more in the gym. I was there, but a couple of days I felt like I was more in my training. I want to push harder this week.

I did not get on the scale, but my clothes seem to fit a bit 'less already. I feel very motivated!

Brooke:

I know muscle weighs more than fat.

Review this week:

Good: I wasconscious in my eating trying to eat consistently through day and get some pro in with meals (but not eating enough still) . I have been doing daily mind setting, affirmations, and goals.

Challenge: being on the road and finding a way to eat in car since I don't like to stop. Also, eating more protein when not much appeals to me.

Goals: to keep eating consciously, but try not eat late at night. get more pro in my diet. keep weening sweet tooth. stay on track with mind setting (I am size 6).

Summer Storm- An Inconvenience

Summer is a popular season for vacations. Children get their summer holidays and adults usually utilize their leaves at work during this hot season. The most attractive choice for a family vacation is cruises. Most of the cruise liners offer a variety of choices for fun and traveling. However, hurricane is a potent problem during a cruise vacation. The official summer months in the Caribbean are from 1st of June till the 30th of November. This is the season for hurricanes.

Storm incidents

If you were an optimist then perhaps you would ignore this warning. But hang on, even cruise liners can sink. Let us review certain facts that would make you think.

A ship named Phantom belonging to the Windjammer cruise line sunk in 1998. This was an eye-opener to all. It was a reminder that man is helpless against the fury of nature. The passengers were dropped safely on the shore but the ship never returned. Nor did the captain and his crews. All was lost in the hurricane.

A Carnival Cruise ship faced a similar problem in 1999. Luckily, The crew members and the passengers managed to sail through the hurricane safely.

Caribbean cruise vacation

Incidents on a cruise vacation make people jittery. However, you must not be over cautious, as the cruising industry would not jeopardize the life of passengers travelling with them.

Most of their ships use the best technology and skills. This is to ensure you a memorable experience that you would love to have again on a cruise liner. Moreover, the cruisers are offered attractive discounts during the months of August till December. So, you may just feel brave to embark on a cruise.

Hurricanes are an inconvenience

Nevertheless, storms do affect ships. Your cruise course may get altered affecting your vacation plans. In fact your departure may be cancelled owing to a brewing squall. However, weather forecast and foresight could avoid hurricanes but cannot rule them out.

Trip cancellation

The safety of the ship along with its crew and the passengers are a priority for any shipping company. Even the slightest hint of a storm can be risky. So, your trip can be cancelled without any hesitation or prior information. Therefore a reserved ticket on a cruise liner is not the final assurance.

The two most sensible things that you can do:

To avoid unnecessary risks, do not make any advance payments or deposits for your summer cruise vacation

You must be mentally prepared that your cruise may get cancelled. So, you need another vacation plan to fall upon.
