Kenya National Parks Camps-Best Tsavo Kenya Park Camps & Lodges

Baobab House and Nyika camp

This double story thatched house is situated on the banks of the Mtito River overlooking Tsavo East National Park. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Kilimanjaro. There are four en suite bedrooms, a spacious upstairs veranda, a bar, lounge and dining area. The house is fully staffed.

A large swimming pool is surrounded by lawns and gardens,. The bird life is prolific and you can take walks along the river or up to Holly's Rock for sundowners. From Baobab House you can take trips to both Tsavo East and West, drive to Amboseli, go to Mzima Springs or go white water rafting on the Athi River.

Nyika Safari Camp

This tented camp is close to Baobab House and is also set on the banks of the Mtito River. There are six tents each with an en suite bathroom with hot and cold water, shower and flush loo. Guests at the tented camp also have access to the baobab House swimming pool. With a minimum of four people, non-Kenyan residents can stay on a full board basis. Residents can opt for self catering.

Tsavo Inn

This small inn at Mtito Andei is an easy stop on your way to Mombasa Road and about three hours from Nairobi. There is a restaurant and pool in a garden setting. The 30 rooms are very basic-no frills.

Tiva River Camp

This is a small, mobile tented camp on the banks of the Tiva River in the Northern section of Tsavo East National Park. The camp is managed by Patrick Reynolds who has 20 years experience operating wildlife safaris.

There are five tents and it is possible to arrange for exclusive use of the camp. Tents are basic with two single canvas beds, camp chairs and a veranda. Guests share a traditional safari bathroom facility. The evening meal is cooked on an open camp fire.

Staying at Tiva River Camp allows for guided nature walking in a remote and vast wilderness. Guests can "fly-camp" near waterholes to see which animals come to drink. The camp can be reached by air charter.

Epiya Chapeyu

Epiya Chapeyu, an Italian owned tented camp, is located next to the Galana River about 9kms from Luggard falls. There are twenty tents each covered with a makuti roof. There is hot and cold running water and flush toilets. A generator supplies electricity for lights. The cuisine is typically Italian. There are 4-wheel drive vehicles for hire. Most clients are with tour groups driving from the coast for a one night safari stop.

Other tented camps in the Tsavo East National Park

Makoka

Kingfisher

On the galena River

There are not many safari camps in Tsavo east Northern section owing to past security problems north of river Galana. The security has recently improved and the area has now been opened up for tourism.

The best camps are however the one located on the river Galana and Tiva. Check with your Kenya travel company for more update information on places to stay in Tsavo national park.
